After his swimming career finished in Arkansas, Brent became the head medley and distance coach at the University of Arkansas for one year. Robert Novak is in his 3rd year with EOMAC. His extensive swimming experience and easy-going demeanor make his swimmers feel at ease while training.

Rob is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He started competitive swimming at 12 years of age for the Winnipeg Wave Swim Club. He qualified for the Provincial Championships in 1994, and was ranked top five in 13 & 14 TAG in the spring freestyle and backstroke events. He moved to the Manta Swim Club at the age of 14, and broke a number of provincial relay records. During this time, Rob also competed in many national, youth, and junior national swim meets including the 1997 Canada Games in Brandon, Manitoba where he made top 10. After the Canada Games, Rob took two years off of swimming to focus on his studies and evaluate his goals as an athlete. Nonetheless, he was back in the water in 2000, swimming for the University of Manitoba swim team. During this time, Rob competed in the 2001 Canada Games in London, Ontario. After the 2001 Canada Games, Rob decided to retire from swimming and began to coach.

Rob started coaching in the 2001-2002 season for the Winnipeg Wave Swim club. The Wave won Manitoba’s Junior Provincials in 2004 – the first time in ten years! Wave also place 5th at the 2004 Manitoba/Saskatchewan Provincials. Rob has also coached a number of athletes to top 10 in Manitoba and also had two swimmers ranked in the top 10 in 11 & 12 TAG. He is currently the Head Age Group Coach with the Etobicoke Swim Club.

Million Metre Challenge – August

Posted by roger on April 12th, 2010 under Million Metre Challenge  •  Comments Off

August was a good ’summer month’, 4 swimmers in the top twenty and 50 members logging their metres. EOMAC retained first place amongst all Masters swim clubs in Canada with 1.625 million metres and Westmount Y was second with 1.430 million metres, with no other club above 1 million metres.

Our logging leaders were Cindy McLeish 85K (4th in Canada), Colleen Shields with 81K (10th in Canada), Mark Hunter 73K (16th) and Michael Macpherson with 69K (20th). Cindy now leads the club in metres logged (3.7 million) having overtaken Mark Forsyth. Well done Cindy!
